PRG Team in Action

In 2007, our school is one of the pilot schools in the implementation of Project Rain Gauge spearheaded by SMART Communications. We are greatly honored and indebted to SMART for having been chosen as one of the pilot schools. Because of this undertaking, we have formed the PRG team as the organization that will look into the sustainability of the project.
The TNHS PRG Team, being one of the active organizations in the school, commits to continuously promote environmental awareness and disaster preparedness employing the rainfall monitoring activity. Despite the hectic schedule the student- officers had in their schooling, still, they were able to carry out their responsibilities in monitoring the rainfall regularly and promoting the relevance of this activity to other students as well as people in the community. Sometimes the weekends and vacations of these officers are being utilized just to reach out with the community in promoting awareness especially on rainfall monitoring.
Because of the rigorous campaign of the PRG team school on rainfall monitoring, many students joined the oragnization and they later involved themselves in the diiferent environmental activties. Teachers as well showed their interest in PRG that's why during their discussion especially in science, they integrate rainfall monitoring in their lessons.
To ensure accuracy of the rainfall data, the TNHS PRG adviser verifies the data obtained by the officers for them to record this correctly in the journal and the blogsite. Since 2007, we have recorded the rainfall data in the journal. Every month, we also make a graph of the rainfall data to observe the trend and pattern of the rainfall.
Just like other organizations, we have encountered challenges. There was a time when some officers misplaced the measuring stick. Because of this, we have decided to put the measuring in the faculty room of the PRG adviser. We also found out that the rain gauge is already full of rust, and with this, we have designed and painted the rain gauge.
"Conducting awareness campaigns on global warming and promoting the use of rain gauges towards disaster preparedness is our advocacy; and preserving the beauty and bounty of Mother Nature is our policy." Despite the challenges that we'll encounter along the way, we are still steadfast in our advocay and policy.
